Visitors were taken on a Mixed Reality journey powered by Microsoft HoloLens 2, stepping into a narrative-driven experience where SK-II Studio’s animated films came alive all around them.
This wasn’t tech for tech’s sake. It was an example of how technology, when thoughtfully integrated, can elevate storytelling, evoke empathy, and deliver a message that resonates long after the headset comes off.
The pavilion featured five interior zones: a welcome zone, a skin-scan and onboarding zone, the Mixed-Reality experience itself, a Pitera zone, and a retail zone. The exterior used a modular frame system designed for easy disassembly and global transport, with a giant semi-transparent LED screen serving as a visual magnet to draw visitors into the space.
The Mixed Reality chapters brought the stories of Simone Biles, Liu Xiang, and Kasumi Ishikawa to life — each confronting symbolic monsters representing online trolls, superficial judgments, and self-doubt.
I had the privilege of taking over the lead of this bold, immersive installation that brought SK-II’s #nocompetition campaign to life. The project was delayed one year due to COVID-19. I led coordination from Singapore across multiple time zones, renegotiated vendor contracts mid-project, and delivered on budget with positive margins.
